The most recent Comics Roundup in The Portland Mercury features not one, but two Northwest press talents. The new anthology No Straight Lines: Four Decades of Queer Comics from Fantagraphics, edited by Justin Hall (Glamazonia: The Uncanny Super-Tranny) gets an enthusiastic endorsement from Alison Hallett, and Leia Weathington’s The Legend of Bold Riley (and the release party in Portland this Saturday) get a big thumbs up from Courtney Ferguson.
The Legend of Bold Riley is a goofy and enjoyable Arabian Nights-style collection that never makes a hullabaloo that its strong sword-brandishing hero and righter of wrongs is a woman (a woman who loves the ladies, no less), because, duh, why the fuck wouldn’t she be?
